The Imitation Game
Benedict Cumberbatch will play Alan Turing in new biopic The Imitiation Game from Blackbear Pictures. The Imitation Game is the true story of British mathematician and cryptographer Alan Turing, a complex figure and father of computer science- who cracked the German “Enigma Code” during World War II to save the war for the Allies. The Imitation Game is written by Graham Moore and topped the 2011 Black List for best unproduced script. The movie will be directed by Morten Tyldum who directed Headhunters. The movie will film this summer.
The Fifth Estate
The Fifth Estate traces the heady, early days of WikiLeaks, culminating in the release of a series of controversial and history changing information leaks. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Julian Assange and Daniel Brühl as Daniel Domscheit-Berg the film follows Domscheit-Berg who was an early supporter and eventual colleague of Julian Assange. Wikileaks overnight success brought instant fame to its principal architects and transformed the flow of information to news media and the world at large.
Directed by Bill Condon the film also stars Laura Linney, Anthony Mackie, David Thewlis, Peter Capaldi, Dan Stevens, Alicia Vikander and Carice van Houten.
Coming from Dreamworks Studios The Fifth Estate will open in U.S. theaters on 15 November 2013.
August: Osage County
The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Benedict Cumberbatch will be appearing in the film version of Tracy Lett’s Pulitzer prize winning play August:Osage County.
Benedict will play “Little Charlie” the son of Chris Cooper’s character. Also appearing in the film are Oscar winning actresses Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts.
John Wells (ER) will direct Tracy Lett’s adaptation of her own play and George Clooney is executive producer.
Star Trek Into Darkness
Benedict Cumberbatch stars as John Harrison in Star Trek Into Darkness – the sequel to JJ Abrams popular re-boot of the Star Trek franchise.

Benedict stars alongside Chris Pine (Captain Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Simon Pegg (Scotty), Anton Yelchin (Chekov), Bruce Greenwood (Commander Pike), John Cho (Sulu) and Karl Urban as Bones. New castmembers include Noel Clarke, Alice Eve and Peter Weller.
Despite the revelation of the name of the character Benedict is playing (John Harrison) speculation continues to rage as to whether, despite the name, Benedict will be playing the iconic villain Khan Noonien Singh- the genetically engineered human who was prominent in the Eugenics Wars (played by Ricardo Montalban in Star Trek: The Original Series episode Space Seed and the feature film The Wrath of Khan) or Gary Mitchell
Star Trek Into Darkness is due to be released on 17 May 2013.
12 Years a Slave
Benedict Cumberbatch will be appearing in 12 Years a Slave directed by Steve McQueen (Shame, Hunger).
Benedict will be playing William Ford – a slave owner who encounters the film’s hero Solomon Northup (Chiwetal Ejiofor).
12 Years a Slave boosts a very impressive cast list including Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Paul Giamatti, Alfre Woodard and Garrett Dillahunt.
The film is due to be released in 2013.
The Hobbit
Benedict Cumberbatch will be appearing in The Hobbit as both Smaug the dragon and the voice of the Necromancer.
Directed by Peter Jackson The Hobbit will be a trilogy of films starting with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey which was released on 14 December 2012. It will be followed by The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug on 13 December 2013 and the final instalment The Hobbit: There and Back Again which is due for release on 18 July 2014.
The Hobbit stars Martin Freeman (John Watson in BBC’s Sherlock) as Bilbo Baggins. The film also stars a host of well known British actors including Richard Armitage (Thorin Oakenshield), Billy Connolly (Dain II Ironfoot), Stephen Fry (the Master of Laketown), Sylvester McCoy (Radagast the Brown), James Nesbitt (Bofur), Ken Stott (Balin), Luke Evans (Bard the Bowman) and Aidan Turner (Kili).
Reprising their roles from The Lord of the Rings trilogy are Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins), Cate Blanchett (Galadriel), Orlando Bloom (Legolas) Hugo Weaving (Elrond) and Andy Serkis as Gollum.
Benedict Cumberbatch will portray Smaug through the use of motion capture technology and will voice the Necromancer (the character ultimately revealed to be Sauron).
War Horse
Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Major Stewart in the Dreamworks/Disney picture War Horse.
Directed by Steven Spielberg War Horse is based on the Michael Morpugo book which was itself adapted for a blockbuster production at the National Theatre.
The film co-starred Jeremy Irvine, Tom Hiddleston, Emily Watson and Peter Mullan.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Benedict Cumberbatch played Peter Guillam opposite Gary Oldman (who received an academy award nomination for his role) in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Directed by Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In) the hugely critically acclaimed Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy features a hugely impressive cast consisting of Benedict Cumberbatch (Peter Guillam), Tom Hardy (Ricki Tarr), Oscar winner Colin Firth (Bill Haydon), John Hurt (Control), Toby Jones (Percy Alleline), David Dencik (Toby Esterhase), Ciaran Hinds (Roy Bland), Mark Strong (Jim Prideaux) and Kathy Burke as Connie Sachs.

Third Star
Third Star is an independent movie from Western Edge Pictures starring Benedict Cumberbatch as James – a terminally ill man who takes a roadtrip to Barafundle Bay along with his friends.
The movie co-stars Tom Burke (The Hour, Great Expectations), Adam Robertson (River City) and JJ Feild (Captain America) and is directed by Hattie Dalton from a script by Vaughn Sivell. The film was released in the UK on 20 May 2011 and is available in the US on video on demand.
James wants to make the most of this life – what’s left of it. He invites his three closest friends to join him on a road trip to his favourite place in the world. Like many an impulsive group holiday, however, the undertaking proves fraught with practical difficulties, surreal encounters and emotionally ravaging revelations. Wreckers
Benedict Cumberbatch stars as David in Wreckers an independent movie written and directed by newcomer Dictynna Hood.
The film co-stars Claire Foy (Hacks) and Shaun Evans (Endeavour, The Last Weekend).
Wreckers was selected for the London Film Festival in 2011 and won the Perspectives competition at the Moscow Film Festival (Shaun Evans collected the award for the team)

Recently married couple, David and Dawn, return to David’s childhood village to start a family. Their relationship seems idyllic, but getting pregnant is proving difficult and is adding to the strain of building their perfect home. A surprise visit from David’s brother Nick, a soldier, on leave from Afghanistan, slowly exposes the lies embedded in Dawn and David’s relationship. Through Nick, Dawn discovers more about the siblings’ painful childhood and begins to wonder how well she knows her husband. Disorientated by her husband’s sudden volatility, she is inextricably drawn to Nick. Dawn becomes a hostage to an increasingly precarious sibling friction, putting the couple’s relationship to the ultimate test.

The Whistleblower is based on the experiences of Kathryn Bolkovac, a Nebraska cop who served as a peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia and outed the U.N. for covering up a sex scandal.
Rachel Weisz stars as Kathryn Bolkovac alongside Monica Belluci and Vanessa Redgrave.
The movie was released in the US in August 2011.

The Other Boleyn Girl
Benedict Cumberbatch had a small role in The Other Boleyn Girl as William Carey – husband of Mary Boleyn played by Scarlett Johnansson (The Avengers).
The Other Boleyn Girl is a historical drama based on the novel by Phillippa Gregory depicting the life of Mary Boleyn – sister of Anne. The film also starred Natalie Portman (Black Swan) and Eric Bana as Henry VIII.
Atonement
Based on the much loved novel by Ian McEwan Atonement featured Benedict Cumberbatch in the key role of confectionary millionaire Paul Marshall.

Famously, Steven Moffat has said that he first thought of Benedict for the role of Sherlock when he saw him in Atonement.
Inseparable
Inseparable is a very powerful short film starring Benedict Cumberbatch in a dual role as Joe and Charlie – twins who lead very different lives.
When young dad Joe discovers he is dying drifter Charlie is given a unique opportunity to turn his life around. A story of family, identity and starting again.
Inseparable also stars Natalie Press and was directed by Nick White.
Amazing Grace
Benedict Cumberbatch starred as William Pitt the Younger in this film about anti-slavery pioneer William Wilberforce (Ioan Gruffuud).
The movie was directed by Michael Apted (Chronicles of Narnia – Voyage of the Dawntreader) and also starred Albert Finney, Ciaran Hinds and Toby Jones
Starter for Ten
Benedict Cumberbatch appeared as Patrick Watts – priggish head of the University Challenge team at Bristol University in this comedy drama which starred James McAvoy (X-Men First Class, Atonement).

On his way to achieving his long-held ambition to appear on University Challenge, he falls in love with his beautiful teammate and forms a plan to win her heart through his advanced general knowledge skills.
